Supporting artisans in Haiti after Hurricane Matthew

When Hurricane Matthew struck Haiti two weeks ago, many braced for what was certainly unfortunate news for the poorest country in the Americas that is still recovering from the devastating earthquake in 2010. Hundreds of lives have been lost and thousands of families are now homeless and struggling to survive.

As communication allows, we're hearing from our partner Comite Artisanal Haitien about their artisans and how they've been affected. Areas along the southern coast of Haiti were hit hard, and artisans and their families in Les Cayes and Port-Salut have suffered from damaged homes and workshop spaces, along with lost raw materials for their crafts. Some family homes have been completely destroyed.

We've been able to send emergency funds quickly to help with immediate needs, and are accepting donations for additional assistance for rebuilding and recovery.

Your purchases also help artisans in Haiti by allowing us to place more and larger for their crafts. Learn more about CAH and browse our collection of stone and metalwork items.

As we learn more, we will add updates in this space.
